Excellently Packaged
Glass-wrap® is a FEURER packaging system for flat glass. In November 2015, it received the PackTheFuture Award in the product protection category.
The award relates to the competition entry submitted at that time in the product protection category. It does not provide blanket confirmation of the environmental performance of the product or the company. Glass-wrap® is a modular packaging system for glass manufacturers, finishers and processors.
The principle: Reinforced moulded foam parts are joined together like a picture frame and secured with a tensioning belt. The packaging is adapted to the dimensions of the glass pane. Corners and edges require particular protection during handling and transport; the suitable design and specified handling procedures must be checked for the intended use.
Handling and storage: Depending on the design and glass pane, the packaging may be configured for stacking or placement side by side. Arrangement, permissible loads and transport conditions must be established for the specific application.
After use: The packaging can be taken apart and compacted for return transport. Its condition and suitability must be checked before reuse.
The standardised modular packaging system is intended for the transport, handling, storage and installation of flat glass. Possible applications include window panes, mirrors, solar glass and insulating glass; suitability must be assessed against the specific requirements.
The PackTheFuture Award was created from an initiative by Elipso, the French association for plastic packaging and flexible packaging, by the German IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V. [German Industry Association of Plastic Packaging]. The prize was awarded by an expert jury presided by Prof Dr Horst-Christian Langowski, the Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for process engineering and packaging. “The large number of participants emphasises the innovative power of the plastic packaging industry,” said Jury Chairman Prof Dr Horst-Christian Langowski.
